Modern culture is at a defining point on the entire subject of the LGBT movement.
As a culture, there is a great deal of effort right now, to decide what place that lifestyle should have in society. For many Christian this is an uncomfortable subject. Yet, for the biblical man, we should have confidence in the Bible, and know exactly what the scriptures teach.
What does the Bible say about homosexuality?
There is NO PLACE in the Bible for hate!
Sadly, many Christian men justify hate, as a response to homosexuals and homosexuality. That in itself is sin.
“Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” ~ Ephesians 4:31–32
The truth is, there are people around us that struggle with homosexuality. It is part of mankind’s sinful nature, and it is a pitfall for many people. Do you have any pitfalls of sin? Are you without sexual temptation and sin?
Jesus said – “…..He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone…” ~ John 8:7
So, what does the Bible say about homosexuality? Let’s take an honest look at homosexuality in the Bible.
Revealing Truth #1: It is a sin.
What does the Bible say about homosexuality? Honestly, the Bible clearly says that it is a sin.
The Old Testament
“The show of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.” ~ Isaiah 3:9
“Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.” ~ Lev. 18:22
“If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death…“~ Lev. 20:13

The New Testament
“Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.” ~ Rom. 1:24
There are many other scriptures that give direct reference to the sin of homosexuality. Yes, the Bible can be pretty harsh on the subject of sin. But that’s true for all sin, and rightfully so, after all it is the Bible.
Revealing Truth #2: Sexual sin is wrong.
What does the Bible say about homosexuality?
Homosexuality in the Bible, is in the list of sexual sins. There are others, like adultery and fornication. These are all condemned as sin.
“Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.” ~ I Corinthians 6:9
Keep in mind that everyone gets uncomfortable when you get closer to their favorite sin. If this post was all about the sin of mental adultery we would all get uncomfortable.
“But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” ~ Matthew 5:28
Sin is sin.
While some may choose to grade different kinds of sin on a scale, they would be hard pressed to get that out of the Bible. Ultimately, the Bible teaches that to offend in one point of the law, is to be guilty of violating all of it.
“For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.” ~ James 2:10

Revealing Truth #3: Temptation is no excuse.
What does the Bible say about homosexuality? The Bible tells us that the temptation of sexual sin, of any kind, is to be resisted.
“But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” ~ James 1:14–15
I have heard homosexuals say something like “if God didn’t want me to be a homosexual, then why did he make me with such a strong desire like this?”. Honestly, that’s a valid question. But consider that logic all the way through, be consistent.
Men have a lot of sinful sexual desires. Is God to blame for that? If a man has a strong desire to have sex with every good looking woman that he sees, should he act on that impulse? What if he is a pedophile?
Listen guys, we are not dogs, we are sinners.
An impulse to sin is not permission to sin.
“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” ~ 1 Corinthians 10:13
Revealing Truth #4: There is no “gay gene”.
What does the Bible say about homosexuality?
The history of in-depth “Gay Gene Research” – has been totally inconclusive, and has never been definitive! If there was a “gay gene”, we would know it by now. Scientists have gone to great length to discern this, with no definitive results.
If there is a “gene” at all, the Bible tells us that it is a “sin gene”. We ALL have it!
“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned” ~ Romans 5:12
“Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.” ~ Romans 6:12–15
The “gene” that we inherited is the sinful nature from our forefather, Adam. It has passed from one generation to the next for thousands of years now. That sin nature manifests itself in all manner of sin, homosexuality being one of them.
It’s true, there is a big stigma to that particular sin, but most sexual sins are hidden behind closed doors. Not just homosexuality. There is a level of shame that tends to accompany unrestrained sexual sin. This is often the devil’s playground.
Revealing Truth #5: Jesus loves sinners, but hates their sin.
What does the Bible say about homosexuality? The Bible teaches us that Jesus died for ALL sinners. He didn’t pick and choose which sins would be atoned for. There have been Christians that have come from every walk of life, and every sinful lifestyle.
“And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” ~ 1 Corinthians 6:11
So many men are quick to minimize their own sins, while making the sin of homosexuality into the unforgivable sin. That is not only a wrong understanding of what the Bible teaches, but it exposes the sin of pride. Jesus loves sinners, but hates their sin.
“The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.” ~ Matthew 11:19
I understand that homosexuality might turn your stomach, and I feel the same way about it too. In fact, there are many sins that turn my stomach. However, Jesus loves you despite the ugliness of your sin, and died to atone for your sin.
Forgiveness is available for anyone, that is willing confess their sin to God, and to put their faith and belief in the death, burial, and physical resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Another Question about homosexuality in the Bible – Should an unrepentant homosexual be accepted as a church member?
That is becoming a very important question as of late. Many churches are struggling to keep their biblical ground on this matter. There is a lot of pressure to either turn a blind eye to it, or to accept open unrepentant homosexuality as normative in some churches.
Churches today are being pressured, and sometimes threatened, to perform gay wedding ceremonies.
However, the Bible is clear, that if someone in the church is in open violation of sin, without true repentance, then it has to be dealt with as with any other sin. There are plenty of obvious comparisons that would serve as good examples.
If a man was sleeping around with other men’s wives in the church, would that be ok? If the pastor had a propensity for the sin of gambling away the churches money online, would that be ok? Why not?
The answer to that is, because it is sin. It may not be a crime, but it is a sin in the church, that has to be dealt with.
“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.” ~ Eph. 5:11

Another Question about homosexuality in the Bible – Does the Bible say that people should be stoned to death for sexual sin?
In the Old Testament, if someone was convicted of something, then public justice was swift. Stoning was used to set a public example of violators, much like the public hangings in early America. Yes, there is a list of things in Old Testament times, that were considered worthy of the death penalty. That is a simple biblical fact.
Does anyone think that it should still apply today? The rise of Christianity actually did more to secure human rights than oppression. If there is any religion that thinks raw brutal justice (injustice actually) should still be practiced today, it is Islam, not Christianity.
You will not find that ideology accepted or suggested anywhere in the New Testament.
